DVC is visual communication in the form of drawing and digital design, conceptual design. It leads to fields like architecture, product design and presentation in a media form.

This course will focus on extending skills in technical drawing and computer aided drawing. You will be asked to create design solutions for both spatial and product designs by working through a carefully thought out design process. You will also be extending your understanding of design terminology and applying this to a research project which will influence your design projects.

In this course students will be given the opportunity to work on both spatial and product design briefs. The spatial design assignment will draw on a body of research into the life and works of an architect of their choice, and the product design assignment will be inspired by one of the films Weta Workshop has produced. Sketching and instrumental drawing will be compiled into a portfolio for external assessment at the end of the year.

In this course you will have the opportunity to extend your skills in sketching, technical drawing and the use of digital media. You will gain some experience in working with a client and produce a design solution for them. You will also be asked to critically analyse existing designs using the correct design terminology. You will be expected to work through an effective design process and come up with design solutions for both product and spatial designs.
